OWAMNIYOMNI
RECLAIMING OUR SACRED RELATIONSHIP WITH OWAMNIYOMNI (MISSISSIPPI RIVER)

Friends of the Falls and the Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI) have partnered with the Native community to create a place of healing and celebration at Owámniyomni, on the Mississippi River, that acknowledges the past and advances a more equitable and inclusive future.
Core to the engagement process is the Native Partnership Council, a group of Dakota tribal leaders, Dakota descendents, history keepers, spiritual leaders, and artists. The group has steered the engagement process and shaped priorities from an Indigenous perspective.

Friends of the Falls, NACDI, and the Native Partnership Council lead this important initiative. Mni Ki Wakan support of the Native Partnership Council as a community partner is a strong demonstration of community water governance and justice.
The participation in of Mni Ki Wakan in this process helps us meet our commitment to Indigenous water representation, governance, and to fulfill the water map of Indigenous Peoples.
