IYAR
INDIGENOUS YOUTH PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH
At the global and local level, MKW co-leads and co-conveners have seen the need for Indigenous-led research on Indigenous water rights to amplify the voices of Indigenous communities. At the heart of Indigenous communities are Indigenous youth. Mni Ki Wakan spearheads IYAR to ensure the future is represented in Indigenous water rights and justice while centering Indigenous research methodologies in advancing MKW's work.
MKW centers Indigenous-led research in water decolonialism and amplifying Indigenous voices. Our work is just beginning in this innovative field, and Indigenous water governance is still growing. We work to ensure that the original roles communities held in their own water rights are brought back, we do not default on the western 'expert' model which has divested many Indigenous communities of their traditional roles in the basic human rights.

MKW AND MIGIZI ON WATER SOVEREIGNTY
Research & Education
MKW has partnered with Migizi to co-develop youth water programming for the summer of 2022. MKW & Migizi will also co-lead an IYAR project with Native youth on water sovereignty. This multifaceted partnership is the first of its kind, the MKW team is excited to be working with Migizi.
This is an exciting partnership, and we are happy to be a part of it.
