Native Partnership Council-Owamniyomni

Restoring Our Sacred Relationship with Water
Friends of the Falls and the Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI) have partnered with the Native community to create a place of healing and celebration at Owámniyomni, on the Mississippi River, that acknowledges the past and advances a more equitable and inclusive future. Core to the engagement process is the Native Partnership Council, a group of Dakota tribal leaders, Dakota descendents, history keepers, spiritual leaders, and artists. The group has steered the engagement process and shaped priorities from an Indigenous perspective.
Mni Ki Wakan support of the Native Partnership Council is a strong example of community water governance, and justice by engaging Indigenous Peoples, and the Dakota people in reclaiming an ancestral body of water and land.
